Comprehensive Black Powder Management Solutions

Gas transmission lines are often blighted by the occurrence of Black Powder phenomena. Black powder consists of iron compounds including iron oxides and iron sulphide, sand, clay, salt, weld slag and even iron.  If not managed effectively, black powder can damage: Pipelines, Pumps, Compressors, Valves, Meters and Reduces Product Quality.

Formation of black powder is mainly due to corrosion processes occurring in pipelines. It is initiated by hydrogen sulphide (H2S), water (H2O) and iron (Fe), as well as carbon dioxide (CO2). Microbes, including both sulfate-reducing and acid-producing bacteria, are also key contributors.
Managing black powder requires knowledge and acceptance of its formation processes and presence, and a plan and equipment to remove it.

Our black powder management packages include:

Cleaning with specially designed pigs
Capture of black powder using magnetic filtration
In line inspection with various NDT techniques
Waste management of black powder deposits
